Carrie Underwood Hits Vegas for Bachelorette Party

Posted by Janice Bryant On June - 28 - 2010

Country music superstar and American Idol season 4 winner Carrie Underwood went off to Las Vegas with her closest girlfriends to spend the last few days of her singlehood in classy fashion, despite being in Sin City.

The 27-year old “Jesus Take the Wheel” singer and her friends were said to be seated at a VIP table at the LAVO stage Friday night. With her friends wearing feather boas and the engaged singer wearing a “Bride-to-Be” sash, onlookers say all they did was “goofed around” while Underwood “did the running man”.

Seemed like a clean and “sinless” bachelorette Party in Sin City.

Meanwhile, her soon-to-be better half, Hockey Star Mike Fisher, was seen in Nashville hot spot Cabana, with four of his closest buddies, chugging down on dinner and some drinks. Cabana was also frequented by another Country music chart topper Taylor Swift.

Fisher already had his bachelor party a week prior in Miami’s The Mansion, this time with a slightly bigger group of fifteen men and with hip-hop star Lil Jon taking charge of the music. The guys had Belvedere cocktails while dancing atop of their table. Fisher behaved well though, chugging down only one cocktail throughout the night and was simply amused by the sight of his buddies being silly, but not rowdy.

The couple has managed to keep the details of their wedding hush-hush. When asked about the wedding preparations, Underwood simply said that as long as she, Fisher, their families and closest friends show up, all is well.

Carrie Underwood Cleans Up at CMT Awards

Posted by Janice Bryant On June - 10 - 2010

Taylor Swift has been shown by Carrie Underwood who the country music queen really is. Underwood score two big victories at the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday. The former “American Idol” champion prevailed in the public voting. Underwood’s video “Cowboy Casanova” won the top award and her “Temporary Home” rendition on CMT’s program “Invitation Only” took the performance prize.

Going into the night Taylor Swift had three nominations, including female video and video of the year for her song “You Belong to Me.” Both of those awards were won last year by Swift for her song “Love Story.” Swift’s “Our Song” won in 2008. Underwood and Swift lost to Miranda Lambert in the female video category. Her song “White Liar” earned Lambert her very first CMT award. Swift also lost out in the category collaborative video. Her video “Best Days of Your Life” with Kellie Pickler lost out to Trace Adkins and Blake Shelton for “Hillbilly Bone.”

Carrie Underwood three years ago won female video and video of the year awards for her song “Before He Cheats.” These awards have been given out for nine years. Four performers have won twice. Keith Urban (2006: “Better Life”; 2005: “Days Go By”), Toby Keith (2004: “American Soldier,” 2003: “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue”) were also multiple winners. For the very first time Urban was awarded best male video for his song “Til Summer Comes Around.” Keith lost top video for his song “American Ride.”

The group video award was won by Lady Antebellum for the very first time for their song “Need You Now.” Brooks & Dunn, which will be splitting up soon, won duo video award. It was the first time the pair had won the award since “Indian Summer” in 2002. The breakthrough video award went to Luke Bryan for “Do I.” Shaun Silva’s body of work was honored.

The nominees and winners were determined by online fan votes for eight out of nine of the categories. Video of the Year voting was different. Ten semifinalists were pared down to five. They were announced at the beginning of the award’s ceremony broadcast live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on CMT. During the broadcast votes were cast via text messaging and online. Underwood beat out Swift, Lambert, Lady Antebellum and Keith.

Sons of Sylvia Join Carrie Underwood as Openers

Posted by Janice Bryant On June - 7 - 2010

Once again, Ashley Clark is joining Carrie Underwood on her road trek. However he won’t be in the corner this time behind the star country singer. Ashley, with brothers Adam and Austin- known collectively as the band Sons of Sylvia- are in the middle of opening Underwood’s “Play On Tour.” The outing is running through December.

Ashley first starting singing background vocals and playing fiddle in Underwood’s band in 2005, following her “American Idol” win. I still, to this day, don’t know where they got my phone number to call me to play with her, said Ashley. At the time, I didn’t even know who she was. Then all of sudden we are on “Late Show With David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and all the big shows. I was thinking, wow, how crazy.

Since the beginning of their career, Underwood has been very supportive. The trio started out as The Clark Brothers in 2007 and became “The Next Great American Band” winners. Before that, Adam, Austin and Ashley were part of The Clark Family Experience, along with three older brothers. Ashley said Carrie has been awesome. You get just what you see with her. She really is true. Being famous hasn’t gone to her head. It really has not phased her. She is the same person she was when I originally met her.

The debut album for Sons of Sylvia, “Revelation,” was released in April. They have continued touring with Carrie, admitting the tour has really been amazing. Ashley said, it’s the easiest, most fun and most wonderful experience we have had. It’s very surreal. During the show I sing with her on a duet. It’s a blast.

“Love Left to Lose,” the debut single from Sons of Sylvia, is currently on radio. The band can be followed on Twitter to keep up with them and their touring.

Carrie Underwood Featured on American Idol Finale

Posted by Janice Bryant On May - 26 - 2010

The highly anticipated finale for season nine of “American Idol” was on Wednesday, May 26. Everyone was there that night. Why else would Dane Cook, John Oates, Daryl Hall, Bret Michaels, Alanis Morissette, Christina Aguilera and Alice Cooper, along with a whole slew of upcoming pop stars share the stage along with Carrie Underwood, country music’s favorite American Idol?

Carrie was the best entertainer, by far, on the show. It wasn’t just her voice. She isn’t a legend yet but she also isn’t a rookie. Underwood’s poise on stage was perfect and her choice of song with “Undo It” set the right energy for the show’s finale. On “Together We Are One” she sounded as flawless, as all the winners of years past came together to sing a two minute, moving production.

At the end of the broadcast of two hours, and after 500 million votes were counted, the show had to come to an end. This year the race was between a single mom and local paint salesman. Lee DeWyze, the paint salesman, won.

In my opinion, the loser wasn’t Crystal Bowersox, the single mom. I’m sure she will do great things. This year’s losers are the fans of the show. They have grown to hate/love/accept/tolerate Simon Cowell over the last nine years. I don’t quite know if “American Idol” can go on without Simon. However hearing DeWyze’s reaction of how amazing it was and how he hadn’t ever been this happy in his life and watch him attempt not to cry during “Beautiful Day” by U2 was a bittersweet ending for the season.

Carrie Underwood Extends Tour Through Summer

Posted by Janice Bryant On April - 19 - 2010

Carrie Underwood’s ongoing trek across North America has been extended to last until the end of the year as the country superstar continues backing “Play On,” Underwood’s third studio album that was released last year.

The outing will continue on in Grand Rapids, MI on April 23 and run through late June. It will then resume in early fall following a handful of appearances at summer festivals. The tour’s new fall leg will visit over 45 cities and kick off in Portland, OR on September 25 and wrap up in Calgary, Alberta on December 19.

Tickets will be going on sale for the additional shows starting on April 24.

“Play On” was released by Underwood last November. Last year the album registered the largest total first week sales from any woman recording artist and was also the second best week of sales for any country performer for 2009 according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan reported by Billboard.

“Play On” followed “Carnival Ride” from 2007 and debuted in the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s 200 chart. Underwood was on the road for most of 2008 for her “Carnival Ride Tour,” a 137 show trek that drew over 1.2 million fans.

Underwood won a Grammy in January. Her duet with Randy Travis, “I Told You So,” won Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. The former winner of “American Idol,” at the age of twenty seven, has already won four Grammys. Over the past three years she has also won for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.

Carrie Underwood Makes History at ACM Awards

Posted by Janice Bryant On April - 19 - 2010

Carrie Underwood made music history, becoming the first woman artist to win the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year award twice.

Former winner of American Idol, the twenty seven year old Underwood also won Entertainer of the Year in 2009 and this year won a triple crown prize. During her career Underwood has won for Best Newcomer, Best Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year.

Lady Antebellum won five awards. Taylor Swift, despite her five nominations, was sent home empty handed.

Underwood was competing against Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney, among others.

While accepting her award for Entertainer of the Year, Underwood said I just got my make-up on Brad Paisley I think. She added, praise the Lord and thank you God.

Lady Antebellum, whose recent “Need You Now” album is Number One on Billboard’s 200 album chart, was the winner of five awards, including the prize for Best Vocal Group. That brought an end to the seven year run of Rascal Flatts winning for that category.

“Need You Now,” Lady Antebellum’s crossover hit, also won Single of the Year and Best Song. The song is in the Number Two spot on the Singles US chart.

Charles Kelley, Lady Antebellum singer said, this is wild, man. You just don’t ever know what one song can bring. Tonight is our career pinnacle.

Miranda Lambert received three awards. She beat out Underwood for Best Female Vocalist.

Carrie Underwood Makes It to the Super Bowl Before Tony Romo

Posted by Janice Bryant On February - 8 - 2010

Queen Latifah has definitely come a long ways from her Newark days. Formerly Dana Elaine Owens, she made her introduction with her hip-hop album “All Hail the Queen” in 1989, with all the confidence and swagger that the title alludes to.

Since then she has starred in the musical “Chicago” on the big screen and been a Hollywood Bowl jazz concert headliner. At each step along the way, Queen Latifah’s versatile, brassy voice has proved that it is up to all challenges.

At the Super Bowl XLIV game, Queen Latifah joined a few other singers before the game to sing “America the Beautiful.” She was dressed in a shiny, steel gray jacket and jeans with hair pulled back which revealed a strand of what looked to be blue butterflies right underneath her right ear. Latifah stood in center field with a children’s chorus dressed in red, white and blue surrounding her.

Queen Latifah’s “America the Beautiful” rendition started off shakily. She was tugging on her left ear, trying to apparently adjust her ear piece. However she finally was able to find her voice and rhythm.

After a few drum accents that were worthy of the James Brown command “gimme two times,” Latifah moved into even deeper gospel funk territory through to the conclusion of the song. It was interesting, like her outfit, but not completely successful.

Minutes later, Carrie Underwood, former “American Idol” contestant who was clad in white, stood by herself and sang the national anthem a cappella. At first she sounded thin, however she eventually did find her footing. With the entire world watching even pros like Underwood and Latifah must be intimidated at least a little.

On the lyrics “rockets red glare” Underwood was able to find some red meat that she could chew on. Fireworks, on cue, arched up to the sky as the crowd cheered on the troops that were shown on the massive screen at Sun Life Stadium.

Underwood, in her big finish, sang a majority of the lyrics line “land of the free and the home of the brave” taking very little breath. However she still was able to manage to sustain syllables on the right and dramatic cues. Underwood wasn’t earth shattering but she definitely was solid.

However those four fighter jets streaking across Sun Life Stadium as Underwood finished her song were quite earth shattering.

Before Latifah and Underwood, the orange and green marching band of Florida A&M paid Michael Jackson homage, complete with gigantic posters depicting the face of the King of Pop.

The Indianapolis Colts came onto the field with The Who playing, which was the halftime entertainment at the Super Bowl. Whether that will give them an advantage has yet to be determined.

Carrie Underwood to Guest Star on ‘How I Met Your Mother’ in March

Posted by Janice Bryant On January - 7 - 2010

Going from Idol over to Mother? Well maybe not. However, Carrie Underwood, former winner of American Idol and now one of country music’s singing sensations, will probably be appearing in an episode of “How I Met Your Mother,” the CBS sitcom. Should we start making comparisons with the appearance of Britney Spears? Underwood will be playing in the role of a pharmaceutical rep named Tiffany.” According to the show’s creators Barney refers to them as “the Official New Profession of Hot Chicks.”

Underwood will be playing a stunning beauty attracting Ted’s attention. She isn’t likely to be a candidate for playing the mother’s role. Tons of speculations abound. Many are thinking it could be Rachel Bilson. She will be appearing on the 100th episode this Monday. There have been promises that she will be very important in the show’s story line. However, they don’t appear to be ready to show their cards just yet and have Bilson play the mother.

There are other future guest stars slated to appear on the show that are not likely to play the mother either. They include Amanda Peet, Jim Nantz, the broadcaster from CBS, and Nick Swisher of the New York Yankees. It’s very doubtful that any of them will be playing the mother, although this is all in the future. Anything is possible.

Since this will be Underwood’s first acting in a major role, the big question will be to see how she does. In December she was fun and cute during her variety holiday special. However this role will require more acting chops from her. If she is able to pull it off, most likely it will open an entire potentially new career path up for her. If in case, you know, that whole country music, multi platinum and award winning gig dries up for her.

Then again she could end up doing both. She could end up becoming the new Dolly Parton, although she would have to add a few things into her wardrobe.

Carrie Underwood is Engaged

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 21 - 2009

Carrie Underwood, country music superstar, is now engaged to Mike Fisher, hockey player, according to Underwood’s spokesperson.

Jessie Schmidt said, Carrie Underwood is now engaged with Mike Fisher, I am very happy to confirm. The couple could not be any happier. At this time, a wedding has not been set.

Fisher plays hockey for the Ottawa Senators in Canada.

In November, while making an appearance on the talk show of Ellen Degeneres, Underwood joked around with Ellen saying the nearly year long relationship was her longest.

The pair have been enjoying their long distance relationship. Underwood rejected the idea of the two of them living together.
